Organized by Contagious Concepts and KUSO as co-organizers, the event also has the full support from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, Sabah Tourism Board and endorsed by Kota Kinabalu City Hall. Various official sponsors also includes Xpax, Imperial International, Edaran Tan Chong Motors Ltd, My Cola, Faces and SuriaFM as the official radio station.

Jesselton Point was definitely the place to be for the new years’ eve bash. As one of the many tourist hot spots in Kota Kinabalu city, this venue also introduces a variety of local delicacies served by the multifarious food vendors along side the pier. It is a place where most food connoisseurs come to visit on the weekends to enjoy good food and awesome ambiance.

As the cool breeze of the South China Sea reaches the pier, so were the thunderous crowd converging upon the boardwalks of Jesselton Point. Among the countless people that came included families as well as youngsters, foreigners and locals alike; they all arrived as early as 8 pm obviously eager to delight themselves upon the fusion of several aspects of ‘urban music’ and ‘nature inspired music’ is not to be missed.

Rhythm Masala

The stage was immense and it exudes an ambiance of ostensible grandeur and chromatic magnificence as it kicked off the night with the performance by Singapore’s Rhythm Masala, one of the best Fusion Percussion Group in the city state as well as Asia. Followed up by a wonderfully awe-inspiring performance from our very own Monsopiad Tribal Village Troupe. Included were also the pre-event performers which were the enigmatically breathtaking performance from the Mascara Dancers’ and fire breathers’ dancers as well as the illusionist, Ezad.

The show did not end there as there were more outstanding performers ready to send the crowd into a convivial frenzy of excitement like the Project Pistol comprised of top musicians from Malaysia such as Edrie Hashim, Fiat, Lola, Yuri and Wan Kelly.  They took over the stage with their drum battle performance and a number of rock tunes from Red Hot Cilli Peppers, U2 and Lenny Kravitz just to name a few which was voluminously impressive and electrifying. Kadangyan of the Philippines followed up the show with a more traditional aspect of the show as well as being a musical fusion.

As the crescendo of the celebration almost reached its’ climax with the performances by the White Percussion Unit of Malaysia, DJ Nas-T and later, DJ Lil’ John; the throng of people went wild cheering and dancing through the night counting down the seconds welcoming the new year. Datuk Masidi Manjun was also present on the stage as the fireworks greets the year 2010 with vibrant illumination and tremendous sounds of various musical fusions and joviality.

Stompin’ Sabah 2009 was one of the most climactic and stupendous event ever held in the state capital. An event which claims to be the biggest yet in Sabah it certainly did more than just delivered what was promised and left the everyone in awe of their magnetic performance.

Last Friday(May 30th), the Lifeinborneo.com crew came in around after 11.00 pm to probably catch a glimpse of this amazing woman behind the DJ console but it seemed we had to wait awhile till she turns the place wild. The crowd started pouring in close to midnight. With the band performing their last night, it was memorable for most of the regulars that frequent Shenanigans.

It was a long wait, but worth while nevertheless. I’ve heard an accumulation of house music before from various clubs in the city but DJ Meg was simply, phenomenal. An assemblage of people that lend a convivial atmosphere combined with breathtaking performance; the dance floor was more than just packed and it was beyond wild.

With music as entrancing as what DJ Meg could produce, which included a uniquely mixed The Uninvited from Alanis Morissette; the crowd was absolutely enthralled by the whole performance. Exceptional multifarious repertoire of dance music from House, Acid House, Electro House, Electro and Tech House. All through the night, DJ Meg at Shenanigan’s Fun Pub was phenomenally awesome!

“DJ MEG Biography: Maria Eugenia Gonzalez Vallenilla AKA Dj Meg born in Caracas – Venezuela the 6 of June of 1982. Their beginnings with music and the art began to early age in the school of Classic Ballet “Ana Maria Correa, later studied contemporary dance and also she made factories of dramatic art, music and solfeo in the schools of art like El Ateneo de Caracas and El Teresa Carreno. Finally to the 21 years of age she decides to express music through the vanguardism and technology taking the art from the mixture and the electronic production as form of artistic and musical expression, at the same time she develops her studies of social communication in the Santa Maria’s University. Last Saturday night (19th April) was a blast! I joined some friends at Blue Note and the place was packed, even the dance floor was full of people dancin’. DJ Blink was on the decks and he really made the place hot with fast beats. The music was pulling everyone to the dance floor like magnet. He even played Prodigy’s “Breathe” and “Smack My B***h Up” (my fav songs from years ago) and added his own beats and style.

DJ Blinks brings a unique sound to Blue Note when on the 19th of April, showed off his persistence and innate turntable skills. His distinct sound is polished by spinning with DJ Tony Tay from Zouk Singapore, DJ Hyper, Meat Katie and Hybrid. He’s also won several competitions including Vestrax and Heineken Thirst.

29 March was the fifth week of Generation Y at Blue Note. It was DJ Anatta’s turn. A breakthrough female DJ, Anatta shot to fame in 2004 when she pipped nine male opponents in DJ competition on the local scene. In 2005 DJ Anatta became the first female DJ to control the decs on Red FM’s Wicked Session, one of the most popular radio shows. She really rocked the turntable and as usual these days, Blue Note was packed to the max.

Yo party people, it’s me again, back from another party. Just like last week, this is a continuation of Generation Y @ Blue Note. This time it’s DJ Nikki, hot on talent and looks, this international DJ was crowned “Heineken Music presents Juice DJ Quest Champion” in 2007.

Walking in, it was even more packed than last Saturday, I couldn’t even move through the crowd. People were dancing everywhere. And this week, I managed to take some pics, so enjoy.

Hey party people, let’s get straight to the details. Generation Y showcases International DJs and happens every Saturday night from 10pm onwards at Blue Note, Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort.

Last Saturday night I went there, and was amazed at the crowd turn-up (it was fuller than ladies nite, and that’s packed). I was talking to my friends outside and walked in maybe 10 mins after and couldn’t find them. Thankfully, I found a few other friends instead and they asked me to join them, so I got my favourite drink and sat at their table near the bar.

House music was played and accompanied by pretty visuals playing on the big Dual-Screen projector, mesmerizing, hypnotizing, makes me wanna drink, enjoy the music and stare at the pretty ladies i mean lights. ahh, this is good. Oh, did I mention the contestants of Sabah Miss Malaysia Universe 2008 were there too? Cheeeers!
